MASTODON GET THEIR OWN ‘WHAT’S IN MY BAG?’ SEGMENT FROM AMOEBA MUSIC

MASTODON GET THEIR OWN ‘WHAT’S IN MY BAG?’ SEGMENT FROM AMOEBA MUSIC

Every now and again, Amoeba music in San Francisco will get a few artists into their store, have them browse for records they'd normally pick up and share what they would get. The segments are always interesting to watch, rich with insight into the subtle influence unsuspecting artists can have on a band. The segment with Cattle Decapitation, features artists like Boyd Rice, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Beck, and Petra Haden for example.

Now, Bill Kelliher and Brann Dailor of Mastodon have gotten their own ‘What’s in My Bag?’ segment, and in typical Mastodon fashion, the albums they hand-picked did not follow any sort of trend. Their picks included everything from a collection of Iraqi pop songs to a Melvins reissue, eventually ending with an Alice Coltrane record:

Here's a full list of the albums the duo picked out:

Bill

Melvins – Ozma / Bullhead 2015 reissue
Robert Johnson – Drunken Hearted Man
Rush – Self-titled reissue

Brann

Various Artists – Choubi Choubi
Max Roach – Award Winning Drummer
Magma – Merci
Alice Coltrane – A Monastic Trio
