Roland celebrates 40 years of perfect clean tone with 40 watts

The iconic yet somewhat (read VERY) elusive Roland Jazz Chorus amp is turning 40!  And what better way to celebrate four decades of legendary studio recordings than with the release of a brand new version of the game-changing Roland JC120!

You might already be rolling your eyes thinking, "OMG!  There are no tubes!!!!" Or, "Roland isn't a guitar amp company!!!", or "Fender amps are the only good clean amps!!1"  But this brand, famous for their powerful yet clean keyboard amps knew that they could offer a guitar amp that would do what no tube amp could- clean up completely into sparkly non-distorted tone.  By incorporating a stereo twin speaker set up, open back cabinetry, lush stereo chorus and reverb, plush twin speakers, and solid state circuitry, Roland introduced the world to an amp that WOULDN'T break up into dirty or even fuzzy tone, no matter how loud it got.

In fact if you've listened to any famous recording since the late 70s, chances are you've heard this amp providing the industry-standard clean tone.  From jazz to new wave to punk; bands like The Cure, The Police, Tears for Fears, Albert King, The Smiths, and Supertramp have recorded iconic guitar riffs on this neutral, crystal clear amp platform.  Hell even heavy bands like Metallica and Limp Bizkit have used and relished this amp.  Don't believe me?  Check out this classic interview with Wes Borland describing what he loves about JC amps.

Chances are, if you like a clean tone, it was done on this amp.

JC, short for Jazz Chorus sits perfectly at home in a jazz setting, where one must hear the true sound of ONLY a guitar and its pickups, without any tube or amp coloring.  But because of this clarity, bands of other genres along with renowned record producers sought after the JC120 for both pedal effects tones as well as "plugged straight in" rock tones for honestly true clean and tonally-neutral guitar sound.

That, in itself, is the reason this amp is so different from everything else, because it DIDN'T offer gritty, dirty tube tone.  Instead, it easily produces crystal-clear cleans, something a tube amp can never quite achieve.

The JC series of amps have gone through several revisions and configurations over the years, and this year, Roland is introducing a 40 watt version that is smaller, lighter, and has more modern features to tailor to modern gigging musicians' needs.  Go feast your eyes and ears on the JC40's features right here:
