Scott Weiland, the famed frontman of Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver is involved in another supergroup! The new group, named Art of Anarchy, has quite the lineup to make it worthy of looking into. Maybe not as insane as that Teenage Time Killers lineup, but still. Along with Weiland, Ron ‘Bumblefoot’ Thal, Disturbed bassist John Moyer, and brothers Jon and Vince Votta make up the new band.
The band is planning a spring release of their debut. It sounds like an interesting lineup, but the band hasn’t made much of a statement of purpose besides that it’ll ‘harder’ than Weiland’s other stuff. How do we know whether to be excited or not?
Well, the band also released a short teaser for the album, which you can watch here:
On an individual basis, these guys have put out some pretty great stuff over the years, but together, with this sound that they’ve just demonstrated, it’s a bit lacking. There isn’t a lot to separate it from the legions of other hard rock bands out there besides the potential star power, and even then, there doesn’t seem like a lot of personal flair from the artists are coming into this. Maybe an album as a whole will have more to it, but as for right now, it doesn’t seem like the band is really going anywhere.
Otherwise, Weiland has a lot more going on than this with his solo project Scott Weiland and the Wildabouts, who are currently attempting to fund their new album via PledgeMusic. Not only that, but there’s also the fact that Disturbed will eventually be getting back together, so Moyer will most likely not be in the band for the long haul.
Who knows, though? The band could put out a phenomenal album and stay together for a couple decades. Anything can happen
