FLEA TEAMS UP WITH MEMBERS OF MARS VOLTA TO FORM NEW SUPERGROUP: ANTEMASQUE

Flea is no stranger to working in music outside of his infectious brand of funk-infused rock that he is known for with the Red Hot Chili Peppers; and the legendary bassist is breaking new ground with his new group ANTEMASQUE.  This brand new project was announced on April 9th, and was formed with the core members of Mars Volta: Omar Rodriguez-Lopez/Cedric Bixler-Zavala along with 2010-era Volta drummer Dave Elitch.

Many of you musical readers may or may not know that Flea has been involved with The Mars Volta since 2003's "Deloused in the Comatorium" where he provided bass guitar for almost all of the record's material.  In 2005, he provided his skill on trumpet on two songs on "Frances the Mute".

Flea has also provided bass guitar for Alanis Morisette (listen to "You Oughta Know", you'll recognize it right away, along with guitarist Dave Navarro), Slash, Jewel, Porno for Pyros, Satellite Party, Incubus, and more!

After Flea's extensive partnership with the band, it almost comes as no surprise that a group similar to this would rise out of the ashes of The Mars Volta, which dissolved in January of 2013.  The new project posted a song to stream entitled "4AM" which can be viewed here:

The Volta was no stranger to having extraordinary talent on the drums, having had the likes of Jon Theodore, Blake Fleming, and the incomparable Thomas Pridgen providing the avant-garde beats behind the music.  Dave Elitch, who toured with the band from late 2009 thru 2010, will be the new group's drummer.  Dave Elitch is also a seasoned veteran of the music business and one of today's most sought-after drummers, having played in a band with Shawn Zuzek and Eric EROCK Friedman (Daughters of Mara), Killer be Killed (another 2014 supergroup that will be worth checking out this year), and currently serving as the touring live drummer for none other than Miley Cyrus!

The new group is announced as a full-time project, however a tweet from Flea seems to show the bassist expressing surprise at his new "involvement".
