NEW MUSIC MONDAY?

NEW MUSIC MONDAY?

I know, I know, the last two Fridays have brought their fair share of Foo Fighters news.  I mean, if you're in Chicago, it's hard to avoid the hubbub that revolves around this band and their concerts lately!  But today, fear not, we have two new songs debuting from two equally prominent artists, involving let's say, Seattle and Sons of Anarchy!

First up, is some new music from the legendary grunge band Soundgarden!  It's certainly atmospheric and different, plus with mixed reviews from die-hard Soundgarden fans, it's always hard to know exactly what you will get with new material.  With a bit of a breakbeat, and that all too familiar stripped back sound, Soundgarden sounds like a true four-piece, giving you nothing more and nothing less.  There are no backing tracks, or layered guitars; and there is a true lack of effects or production.  In fact, you don't even get the trademark Cornell vocals until the end of the tune!  Produced by the Seattle-based Jack Endino, who has done work with other grunge acts like Mudhoney and Nirvana.  The new tune is called Storm and is now available for streaming!

Now, to go in a complete opposite direction- the other piece of new music comes from none other than a recent star from the hit TV show- Sons of Anarchy!  Again, like the Soundgarden tune, this new song is available immediately for free streaming!  The new tune is entitled: "Third Day Of A Seven Day Binge".  Wait, that's right we never told you who released this new song!  While you may not recognize the SOA star in the above picture, see if this looks more familiar:

That's right, it's none other than the doc of shock- Marilyn Manson!  Manson has released his new song after a successful 2013 year, culminating in a Grammy nod!  After getting more involved with television, it is great to see Manson will still be focusing on his music, however this new tune is not quite what you would expect.  Starting off with a simple mid tempo drum cadence, the song never explodes into a goth metal disco stampede like we're so used to with Manson tunes; dance-worthy songs of dark and dismal places.  The song features instead, vintage sounding minor guitar chords and simple, almost despaired vocals.  The song is truly something different, and it seems as if it will merge well with his involvement with SOA.  Manson has also been getting invovled in TV roles for Showtime, HBO, and even doing voicework on the ABC show "Once Upon A Time".

Manson will have new music out in 2015, and it will certainly be interesting to see what the other new tunes sound like!
