For those of you who follow the band on Twitter, you may have been greeted by a one word tweet from the band: “tomorrow.” It really gives an in-depth and detailed announcement of the band’s newest announcement...

Well for those of you who have Sherlock levels of deductive reasoning, you’ve probably figure out what that announcement is. It’s a new Periphery album! Actually, two albums. The band has announced that they will release two separate albums, Juggernaut: Alpha and Juggernaut: Omega. Both of the albums are set to be released January 27th, but not only that, the band will also be touring from January 10th to February 14th.

Now, for those wondering about the titles, the album is going to be based off the character, Juggernaut. The band’s drummer, Matt Halpern, explained the theme of the album in a press release, saying

“Given the nature and complexity of the Juggernaut story, we’ve actually done something different and exciting in regards to the release. Juggernaut is a story that is told through our music, and we want our audience to fully digest the whole experience. Because Juggernaut is very detailed and dense in terms of character development, peaks and valleys, climaxes and resolutions we’ve divided the story and music in two, in the form of two separate albums. Juggernaut: Alpha, the first part of the story, focuses on the back story and character development, while part two/album two, Juggernaut: Omega, focuses on some pretty serious and gut-wrenching events, taking you for a thrill ride along the main character’s complex journey.  Although the albums are split in two physically, the story is only complete when the albums are digested consecutively, allowing the listener to recognize and hear the lyrical and musical overlapping themes, foreshadowing, and connected ideas.”

It sounds very interesting for a concept album. Any album that tells a story is always interesting and engaging to listen to. Guitarist Mark Holcomb answered questions on his twitter, too, concerning the album. According to him, the albums will be released as a bundle or separately on the same day, and that it will also be released on vinyl. He also clarified that the albums will be two full length LPs instead of the misconception of being two EPs. Preorders will be out sometime next week, and the band plans to release singles for the album soon as well. He also addressed the important question of how much cowbell will be on the albums by responding with a simple “1%”.

The most important question, however, is why didn’t the band announce the new album in the same way they announced their announcement? If they can tease their announcement by just saying “tomorrow” why can’t they just announce it by only saying “Juggernaut 3 Months”? It’s all about consistency here...
