For anyone who has ever watched TNT on a typical Sunday, and their constant marathoning of the Lord of the Rings movies, you’ve probably heard of Sir Christopher Lee. For those who don’t know him, to put it bluntly, he’s pretty much a 92 year-old, real-life Dos Equis guy. He’s fluent in English, Italian, French, Spanish, and German, and can speak Swedish, Russian, and Greek, He’s done a lot of voice-acting work for various video games and animated movies, he's fought in World War II, he owns like 4 or 5 occult books just because, and, to the discovery of some, he also makes metal music!
Apparently, since 2012, he’s been releasing covers of Christmas carols ever year, and has a full length album titled Charlemagne: The Omens of Death. It’s pretty much an Amon Amarth album, except with Medieval themes instead of Viking ones, and with Christopher Lee’s insanely amazing baritone voice. He released a teaser for his Christmas covers today (December 10th 2014), which includes a retrospective on his past stuff
You can watch the teaser here:
It is a bit jarring to hear his extremely deep voice like this, or at least in this style. Maybe that’s part of the fun of it, but I personally would love to hear another full length album by him, but in a different style. His voice is sounds almost like a less twisted version of Michael Gira’s, so maybe he could release something more doom metal or even sludge metal? If anything can be said about it, he has an amazing baritone, and it reflects his voice in the various movies that he's done.
Regardless of what he’s releasing or what he sounds like, however, the guy is friggin NINETY TWO YEARS OLD. Anyone would be lucky to be this metal when they get that old, and to be doing this much. To say the least, Christopher Lee is just the very definition of living life.
