It’s been a big couple of weeks for Ozzy, and even a big couple of days. Just this week, he had a new species of frog named after him, his Memoirs of a Madman came out awhile ago, he’s going to be doing a few more episodes of The Osbournes, and, most importantly, he won the Global Icon Award from the MTV Europe Music Awards. The award is pretty cool news, as there have ever been 5 winners of the awards, and they’re pretty big names in their own right. Bon Jovi won in 2010, Queen in 2011, Whitney Houston in 2012, and Eminem in 2013, so he’s being compared to some pretty huge names.
He was even given the award by Slash, who also had some pretty cool things to say about him:
"For four decades the Prince Of Darkness has rocked anyone who dared to listen. This is a guy who does not know how to do ordinary. He scares the hell out of most people and all bats. But to me is a gentle man and a gentleman."
Not only that, but in a pre-show interview he said
"Aside from being one of the mavericks of heavy metal, [Ozzy is] also one of the greatest entertainers, performers I've ever seen. He has amazing control over his audience. It's actually stunning to be on the side of the stage and actually watch the command over his audience. It's pretty intense."
Here's a video of him accepting the award:
His words do a pretty good job of paying tribute to Ozzy, but it doesn’t even stop there. He got on stage with Myles Kennedy and The Conspirators to give an awesome rendition of Crazy Train. The performance obviously impressed the Prince of Darkness as he and Sharon gave it a standing ovation
You can watch the performance here:
Do it, there’s lots of fire and pyrotechnics, so you know it’s good.
