Last week, Slayer was touring in Indianapolis, and were set to do a show at the Old National Centre. While hanging around the city, however, the band stumbled upon a homeless man who was trying to give away his kitten for a dollar. Obviously, in the true spirit of heavy metal, they took the Kitten and found it a new home. Despite all the stereotypes about heavy metal guys, it’s actually not that surprising. Kerry King loves his animals, as he owns a ton of dogs and even breeds snakes as a hobby. The venue that the band was set to play at posted this message on Facebook announcing it:
“It's not every day you hear a story like this… The Slayer crew rescued a kitty off the streets of Indianapolis last night and she now has been adopted into a brand new home!”
Slayer themselves later posted a statement, explaining the situation:
"Kerry [King, guitarist] and some of the crew went to dinner at Kerry’s favorite steak house in Indy, St. Elmo’s Steak House. Afterwards, the assistant tour manager, Jess [Cortese] saw a homeless man on the street who offered up this little kitten for a dollar.
"The kitten apparently was freezing so Jess took it, slept with her in her bunk on the bus and went to the venue with her today, hanging out. One of the runners knew someone who wanted a kitten, so the little guy now has a new home where he or she currently is."
In response to the posts on Facebook, the cat’s new owner has come forward as well, posting a picture of the cat, and explaining the situation even further:
“Here she is! I named her Gypsy! I gave her a bath last night then she slept for 5 hours on the heating pad. She's at the vet this morning being treated for fleas and worms. Thank you Slayer Band for your act of kindness and thank you Rhonda Freeman”
And here’s the pic:
So, good job Slayer! Not only for doing a good thing, but for proving that metalheads can like cats as much as anyone else.
