Many of you may remember Venom, the British metal legends that rocked the 80s with their album Black Metal. Many of you may not know that the band is still going strong, over 35 Years after they released their first demo! That’s older than the internet, so you know it’s gotta be pretty old. With any band of that age, however, it’s hard to stay fresh and reignite that old flame. The band’s last release in 2011, Fallen Angels, was fairly reflective of that, as it left a lot to be desired. Now, they’re coming out with From the Very Depths, the band’s 14th album total. It’s set to drop next week (January 27th) under a Finnish label by the name of Spinefarm Records.
Cronos, the band’s frontman, recently spoke about the effort, saying:
“This album is perfect, all three members are totally over-the-top confident with the new songs and the production. We had a great atmosphere in the studio while we were recording. Dante created pure thunder from his drums, while Rage tears the flesh off your face with his riffs, making everything fall into place so well.”
Well with that kind of confidence, how does the album sound? If singles are usually the best a band has to offer for the album, then the single, Grinding Teeth, that was released today (January 21st) should be the best thing ever, right?
Have a listen for yourself:
It’s heavy, it’s got some pretty intense riffs, it’s angry, and there’s plenty of growling from Cronos, so what more could you want? Overall, it’s a pretty decent song, and the album should definitely be worth checking out.
