Jason Newsted, former bassist of Metallica and current frontman and namesake of heavy metal band NEWSTED is waving the flag high to restore rock and metal's spot at the top of the music scene.  With a successful EP and album, fans (especially of old school metal) are getting a full dosage of thrashy/punky/heavy riffs, complete with the unmistakably epic voice of Jason Newsted.

Touting the phrase "LISTEN TO METAL", Jason has always been highly vocal about getting his message heard, and truly, it is a message that music fans the world over should hear.

On his site,, Jason has announced that he is no longer a part of social media, or in his own words:

"not on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, or any other social networking website as of September 15, 2014 & and has no affiliation with any such impostor sites using his name or likeness unlawfully."

So far, no sources have confirmed exactly why this is, however it may have something to do with his "return to form" philosophy.  It's true that Jason has always been very easygoing and eager to meet fans at live shows, however this may be his way of making a statement that a musician does not have to be on every social media platform at every minute of every day.

Or could this be the result of some fairly typical internet imposters going around making fake profiles in his likeness?

What do you think?  Should your favorite musicians be telling you their every move?  Or is it better to leave them at peace and see them on stage in your city like the old days?  Sound off in the comments!
